Changes were last made to the report in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The ADA recommends that dentists use the report as a guideline and handle radiographic examinations on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRadiographs are valuable diagnostic tools that can help dentists detect and assess oral problems,\u201d said Dr. Lisa Emirzian, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emadental.com\/meet-our-doctors.html\">Northampton dentist<\/a>. \u201cIt is important that their benefits are weighed against the risks and that the exposure to radiation is minimized. We are proud to offer digital imaging techniques to our patients that significantly reduce exposure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The updated report was peer reviewed by several professional organizations, like the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, American Association of Public Health Dentistry, and American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.<\/p>\n<p>Several nondental associations, such as the FDA and National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements, were also asked to examine the new recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>Changes made to the ADA\u2019s report include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The use of the same strength thyroid collar for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emadental.com\/our-services.html\">children<\/a>, females who are of childbearing age and pregnant women<\/li>\n<li>Recommendations for shielding that mirror those established by the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements<\/li>\n<li>Coverage of topics, like receptor selection and technique charts, not included in the CSA\u2019s 2006 report<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emadental.com\/meet-our-doctors.html\" data-wplink-edit=\"true\">General dentistry<\/a> professionals and specialists like Dr. Vincent Mariano and Dr. Emirzian strive to protect you, and ensure that they inform you of the side effects of all procedures.
